Emergency contacts

Hopefully you will never have a need to call for a Search and Rescue team, but it’s good to be prepared just in case.  You can enter these contacts in your phone and also maybe carry a handwritten list in your pack.

Thru Hiking the TCT

Reliable water sources include Berry Pond in Pittsfield State Forest and about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile down the Mattison Hollow access trail, the Kronk Brook originates there.  If you are thru hiking, you should cache water at the trailheads at Rte. 2 – Petersburgh Pass as well as Madden Rd.

The Club does not provide shuttle service from one end of the trail to the other. If you need to be shuttled, check one of the local taxi companies, Best taxies, Williamstown MA. Make arrangements a couple days before you need the service.

Backpacking is allowed but there are no designated camping sites.  NYS Department of Conservation (DEC) allows primitive camping. You cannot camp within 150 feet of a trail or stream. Be sure to use a bear canister or bear hang.  See http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/41282.html if you need more information. Permits are required for 10+ people and 3+ nights on NYS DEC lands.

There is no camping allowed in Hopkins Memorial Forest, basically from just north of Petersburg Pass to the Snow Hole.

Please follow Leave No Trace principles   Thank you!!

Robinson Hollow Access

Use Robinson Hollow Way to access Robinson Hollow. DO NOT use Michelle Way, it has been post Private Rd, Do Not Enter.

The NYS Department of Conservation (DEC) section of the road going up to the Robinson Hollow assess trail is not maintained in the winter. Use care when parking on the public road.

Southeast Hollow access trail - hunting season

During hunting season the Southeast Hollow access trail is closed to hikers. Hunting season runs from the third Saturday in November plus 23 days. The trail begins on private property, please respect the land owner’s request.

Mattison Hollow Parking, July 2019

The small parking area near the Mattison Hollow Trail no longer exists.  As the culvert and bridge were replaced this summer the parking area was removed.  Although there is no longer a designated parking area there are a few roadside spaces beyond the new bridge.  Please take care parking so that you do not restrict access for people that live at the end of the road, and always respect the property owners in the area!

NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is reviewing the matter.  It is a complex issue with environmental concerns.
